Both original Jet Shades and Generation 2 Professional Series Jet Shades have a coating system that is applied to the surface of each Jet Shade that faces outward. For that reason, Jet Shades have both left and right orientations in the cockpit windows. To ensure the integrity of your Jet Shades it is imperative that they be cleaned properly and carefully to avoid damage. For light cleaning, simply wipe with a clean, microfiber towel. To remove heavier buildup, use approximately 1 tablespoon of baby shampoo per a half gallon of water and dampen the microfiber towel with the cleaning solution. Never soak or place the Jet Shades under running water.
Both original Jet Shades and Generation Two Professional Series Jet Shades were designed using technology estimated to provide 5 years of service when used and maintained in accordance with our instructions. Jet Shades come with a two-year warranty.
Generation Two Jet Shades: While the Gen 2 Jet Shades are flexible and will bend without breaking or shattering, they can still be creased if folded or rolled up. Therefore Gen 2 Jet Shades should not be folded or rolled up into a circle smaller than 12” in diameter.
Original Jet Shades: While the Jet Shades are somewhat flexible and will bend without breaking or shattering, they can still be damaged from overbending. Jet Shades should not be flexed more than necessary to install and fit your aircraft's windows. Flexing or bending past 30 degrees, not removing them in heat conditions, and exposure to high humidity, all reduce the life of the product. We recommend you follow the instructions sheet provided for conditions requiring removal as well as storage to prolong the life of your Jet Shades.
No, Jet Shades cannot be used at the same time as foil guards. Foil guards are not needed when Jet Shades are installed and can scratch the Jet Shades when inserting and removing them.
When flying at night you should remove the shades and place them in the polybag provided and stow them behind the pilot seat or in the cabin for quick access. The main use of the storage case is when the plane goes into maintenance. We have had damage to Jet Shades reported as technicians did not know how to handle them properly. Therefore we strongly recommend you remove your Jet Shades and place them in the storage case when you bring your aircraft in for maintenance.
In most cases, no. The new mounting system clips support the Generation 2 Jet Shades, and they do not rely on a friction fit as our original Jet Shades did. If you see a bend or wrinkle when installing Generation 2 Jet Shades, it is because somewhere around the edge, the Gen 2 Shade is too tight to the window trim. In these cases, the owner can remove the shade, pull back the rubber trim, and slightly trim it with a pair of sharp scissors. Then reinsert the shade to test fit again. Optionally, you can have a dealer install your Jet Shades.
The idea for Jet Shades was born in 2017 when a private pilot/engineer who constantly struggled with hot, uncomfortable flights finally had enough. He wanted to enjoy flying without having to resort to temporary or unsightly hacks to block the heat and glare. Utilizing his engineering background, he tested various materials and installation methods that could be FAA approved and ultimately resulted in the creation of a virtually unbreakable, eye-catching window panel that blocks UV, heat, glare and solar energy while providing maximum visibility for pilots. Jet Shades are available for cockpit and cabin windows in a growing number of aircraft types — including propeller, turboprop, jets, airliners and helicopters.

Donald H. Chamberlain –
I have not been satisfied with my A36 G&D window inserts for years. While they gave good “shading” they were nearly impossible to remove, especially the emergency window inserts. Consequently, when it was time to clean the accumulated dust/film between the inserts and the windows it was a real struggle. I broke two emergency inserts and my ABS Certified A&P broke a third over the ten years I’ve owned my N354BC. At a approximately a hundred dollars a pop, my level of frustration increased every time it was window cleaning time.
So at AirVenture last summerI purchased a set of JetShades for my A36. Through the mail JetShades and I measured and installed; trimmed and reinstalled a couple of times. After completing a 4,000 mile West Coast trip in October with my JetShades I’m ready to share my impressions with my Bonanza Brothers:
After 25 hours of early fall desert heat and mostly “severe clear” sunshine I’m attesting that they provide the best shading I’ve ever experienced. N354BC does not have air conditioning … by choice … and with the JetShades the cabin is noticeably cooler. I was getting ~ 30% UV block with my G&D shades and the > 70% UV shading with the JetShades was associated with a noticeably cooler cabin.
Since JetShades are designed to be “temporary” shades, they are a cinch to remove for cleaning.
Because they are “temporary” they do not require an STC and they include shades for the pilot & co-pilot windows. That’s really nice and cuts down on the sweat in the eye phenomenon so associated with hot weather ground activities.
The complete JetShades package also includes an brilliantly designed top windscreen insert. This is almost worth the price of admission right there. With the top windscreen shade in place and my existing Rosen shades you can fly directly into a solar eclipse or a Sahara Desert setting sun without the first squint or sunglasses!
JetShades recently realized that their bread and butter is really General Aviation. Their initial thoughts were that the caring executive/personal jet owners would jump at the idea of keeping the front-end “help” cool before the AC kicked in … but no! There seems to be a lack of empathy on the part of those sipping their drinks and reclining in their seats in PAX end of their CJ’s and G-5’s! JetShades president, Kevin Duggan, now realizes that the market is for those of us little GA flyers that love our airplanes and are guilty of always wanting the latest and coolest gizmo for our little flying fillies without breaking the AMU budget imposed by the Secretary of Treasure.
The one downside to JetShades is that there is a lot of variation between GA airplanes, even between the same make/model. My A36 serial number is E2485 and the window trim differs quite a bit between E0001 and whatever the 2019 G36 serial number is. That problem is compounded when you add into the mix the Mooneys, Pipers, Cessnas, Cirius’s. Consequently, JetShades is establishing regional shops that have personnel trained in JetShades fit and finished. My final trim/installation occurred at Fixed Wing Aviation at KLAL the day before Sun-n-Fun. Their JetShades guy is Carl, and he is a wizard at fit and finish. I was there fewer than three hours and my JetShades are now professionally fitted. This service is optional, but the fee is very reasonable (less than 0.5 AMU for my A36) and I am here to say that it is worth it. I just got back from a very bumpy (high-moderate turbulence) cross-country from KCHA to Gettysburg (W05) and every shade stayed in place.
The long and the short of it is; JetShades is the best window shading option I’ve ever seen. They are most welcome for both PAX and front-end guys. JetShades are one of the best add-ons I’ve done to Four-Bravo-Charlie and I endorse JetShades to my Bonanza Brothers without qualifications.
