Custom Solutions
Precision-fit by our experts for your Bonanza!
Hot cockpits, bright sun, solar glare, UV radiation, and just being uncomfortable with the sun beaming through the cockpit windows have always made the Bonanza cockpit flights less enjoyable and more fatiguing. What’s more, since Bonanza aircraft have been around for many years, over time, aircraft window trim has aged, warped, been replaced, or updated and no two Bonanza aircraft have close enough tolerance for us to make a stock Jet Shade that will exactly fit each aircraft. Even within the same Bonanza model…Â Really – we’ve tried!
The solution is to have your Jet Shades custom-fit to your Bonanza. Custom Jet Shades are designed and precision-fit exactly to your aircraft windows. The process is straightforward and our authorized dealers or your local maintenance shop can typically custom make your Jet Shades while your plane is in for service.
Our Jet Shades Custom Solutions will:
- cool down your Bonanza flights,
- significantly increase the comfort of the pilot and passengers,
- provide excellent visibility through the windows,
- protect all on board from harmful UV radiation,
- reduce glare and pilot fatigue,
- prevent overheating of your tablet/phone,
- eliminate the installation and removal of foil guards*,
- make your Bonanza a sharp-looking plane on the ramp!
With Custom Jet Shades installed in your Bonanza, you, your family and other passengers will want to fly in your aircraft just because itâs so nice inside!
*Always follow the aircraft manufacturerâs and Jet Shadesâ instructions when leaving Jet Shades installed while parked.

Jet Shades Do More & Cost Less
Before Jet Shades, the only custom option for blocking sun glare were acrylic inserts. Since these inserts are only for passenger windows, they don’t offer pilots any relief from hot sun pouring into the cockpit, AND they typically cost much more than Custom Jet Shades.

I have not been satisfied with my A36 G&D window inserts for years. While they gave good âshadingâ they were nearly impossible to remove, especially the emergency window inserts. Consequently, when it was time to clean the accumulated dust/film between the inserts and the windows it was a real struggle. I broke two emergency inserts and my ABS Certified A&P broke a third over the ten years Iâve owned my N354BC. At a approximately a hundred dollars a pop, my level of frustration increased every time it was window cleaning time.
So at AirVenture last summerI purchased a set of JetShades for my A36. Through the mail JetShades and I measured and installed; trimmed and reinstalled a couple of times. After completing a 4,000 mile West Coast trip in October with my JetShades Iâm ready to share my impressions with my Bonanza Brothers:
After 25 hours of early fall desert heat and mostly âsevere clearâ sunshine Iâm attesting that they provide the best shading Iâve ever experienced. N354BC does not have air conditioning âĤ by choice âĤ and with the JetShades the cabin is noticeably cooler. I was getting ~ 30% UV block with my G&D shades and the > 70% UV shading with the JetShades was associated with a noticeably cooler cabin.
Since JetShades are designed to be âtemporaryâ shades, they are a cinch to remove for cleaning.
Because they are âtemporaryâ they do not require an STC and they include shades for the pilot & co-pilot windows. Thatâs really nice and cuts down on the sweat in the eye phenomenon so associated with hot weather ground activities.
The complete JetShades package also includes an brilliantly designed top windscreen insert. This is almost worth the price of admission right there. With the top windscreen shade in place and my existing Rosen shades you can fly directly into a solar eclipse or a Sahara Desert setting sun without the first squint or sunglasses!
JetShades recently realized that their bread and butter is really General Aviation. Their initial thoughts were that the caring executive/personal jet owners would jump at the idea of keeping the front-end âhelpâ cool before the AC kicked in âĤ but no! There seems to be a lack of empathy on the part of those sipping their drinks and reclining in their seats in PAX end of their CJâs and G-5âs! JetShades president, Kevin Duggan, now realizes that the market is for those of us little GA flyers that love our airplanes and are guilty of always wanting the latest and coolest gizmo for our little flying fillies without breaking the AMU budget imposed by the Secretary of Treasure.
The one downside to JetShades is that there is a lot of variation between GA airplanes, even between the same make/model. My A36 serial number is E2485 and the window trim differs quite a bit between E0001 and whatever the 2019 G36 serial number is. That problem is compounded when you add into the mix the Mooneys, Pipers, Cessnas, Ciriusâs. Consequently, JetShades is establishing regional shops that have personnel trained in JetShades fit and finished. My final trim/installation occurred at Fixed Wing Aviation at KLAL the day before Sun-n-Fun. Their JetShades guy is Carl, and he is a wizard at fit and finish. I was there fewer than three hours and my JetShades are now professionally fitted. This service is optional, but the fee is very reasonable (less than 0.5 AMU for my A36) and I am here to say that it is worth it. I just got back from a very bumpy (high-moderate turbulence) cross-country from KCHA to Gettysburg (W05) and every shade stayed in place.
The long and the short of it is; JetShades is the best window shading option Iâve ever seen. They are most welcome for both PAX and front-end guys. JetShades are one of the best add-ons Iâve done to Four-Bravo-Charlie and I endorse JetShades to my Bonanza Brothers without qualifications.

I got the perfect fit of the Jet Shades for the G36 Bonanza. And they are Awesome! Thanks to Kevin Duggin and Manuel Meyrat who were intimately involved in the paper, polycarbonate template adjustment process. The product is every bit as advertised and then some. Love my Jet Shades! As advertised absolutely awesome!

These shade are very well made. They fit very good around both side windows and pilots windshield. The co-pilots fits good, but grabs the rubber when you take them out. It hasnât broken or torn, you just have to be careful with it. If the rubber edges hold up, these will be hard to beat. My first impression is these are great.
There was no glare. The temperature cooled down almost immediately. I removed the pilots windshield before landing on first landing, left them in for the second landing, and can say I definitely prefer them in on a sunny day. For those of you still waiting, give them a call and see when your will ship. ORDER them soon if you havenât because they will have a hard time keeping up with the order once everyone sees the quality of the product and how great they perform.

Finally got Jet Shades custom installed in my Bonanza A36 and LOVE them! My local shop in Prescott – Legends Aviation – custom cut and fitted them and they did a great job.
I had replaced all of my glass several years ago with UV Solar gray and they are great, but still didnât block enough to reduce the heat. Most of our flights are in the teens and the sun is obviously intense in the Southwest. Anyway, the difference this morning just taxiing back to my hangar from the shop was amazing! Canât wait for our next flight…

There is one event in particular that caused me to seek a solution for UV protection in the windows of my 1978 V35B Bonanza (which does not have air conditioning). I had to fly from Charleston, SC, to Nashville, TN, around lunch time in the middle of the summer. By the time I got to Nashville, I had a sunburn, which was embarrassing for my afternoon business appointments and also unpleasant over the next several days. With a history of skin cancer in my family, I figured that UV protection in the windows of my Bonanza would help.
In addition to sun damage, I also struggled with temperature control. Even with the firewall cut off knob all the way out, all the gaskets changed, and the ventilation system working optimally, my Bonanza still gets very hot on the ramp and during climb out and descent in summertime afternoons in the south.
To address the sun and heat, I investigated everything from cheap stick on sunscreens that didnât look like they would work very well to expensive replacement of all the windows. Jet Shades seemed to be the best solution for me. Hereâs why.
I have not gotten a sunburn. And I feel safer from skin cancer with 99+% of UV blocked. With 80% of heat blocked, the cockpit is also much, much cooler. In fact, Jet Shades are so effective that I no longer feel the urge to move my Rosen sun visors to block the sun. I am also taking trips to places and at times of the day that I would not have done without Jet Shades, so Iâm getting more enjoyment and use out of the plane. And with perfect optical quality, there is no visual impairment whatsoever.
